Important message about ADHD Medication
There is a total absence of any Lisdexamfetamine and supplies are not expected until early December. Lisdexamfetamine is a controlled drug which means that there are especial stringencies around its prescription. If you are currently being prescribed for by your doctor it is not permissible for one of our psychiatrists to prescribe either Lisdexamfetamine or any other drug unless it is in the context of a request to come off the Shared Care Agreement (requiring a consultation appointment and a review after starting new medication with the new medication becoming your normal prescription going forward) and we do not have any such appointment slots available in the next few weeks anyway.
Whilst we understand that this is an inconvenience, ADHD medication is not classed as a necessary medication and stopping it for a few weeks will do no harm to your body. As supplies start to trickle back into the market, it will be worth 'shopping around' different pharmacies. However, please be aware that private pharmacies, such as Zen or Pharmazon, may not be willing to honour NHS prescriptions if they do not have any obligation to do so. Please do not ring to make a special case or berate our staff; it is not their fault and they will not be able to assist you because this is a clinical matter, governed by medical regulation.

What our patients say
Very happy with the care from Dr. Allen
I have never felt so comfortable, open and honest with a psychiatrist before
Dr Allen has true expertise; he is authoritative but quietly unassuming in his approach. Dr Allen establishes a strong and genuinely empathic doctor-patient relationship that is based on mutual trust. I have never felt so comfortable, open and honest with a psychiatrist before.
Dr Allen is also extremely patient, almost subtle in his approach. Patients are rarely surprised when they are first diagnosed - after all, it is your life history - but then what? Mental illness is a difficult thing to accept because it trespasses on your (subjective) perspective of who you are. Acceptance means coming to terms with the objective prognostic nature of the diagnosis and its treatment. It took me years to get to that stage.
Dr Allen maintained his patience and he acted as the voice of reason - that is no small comfort during a transitional period when you cannot always trust your thoughts. Bipolar disorder did not define me; but I accepted it at last.
Finally, the search for the most appropriate treatment(s). This can be a frustrating process - we are all different and there is no substitute for trial and error. Dr Allen communicated his strategy clearly and he was only too happy to involve me in the decision making process, which included making appropriate dosage adjustments based on my feedback as a medication-sensitive individual. Not only is that degree of personalised care a rarity, it was also very clever: it empowered me; it gave me some degree of control over my treatment; I willingly complied and my condition improved markedly as a result.
I have never looked back and I wholeheartedly recommend him.
A highly respected expert in her field

In my professional opinion, a safer pair of hands in the specialist field of psychiatry and mental health, especially in our shared special interests of acquired brain injury, dementia and neurobehavioral disorders, would be very tricky to find. It gives me great pleasure to recommend Dr Stoffels, especially at this current time when the need for this type of expert care is so great.
