Phoenix Mental Health Services is an independent provider of private psychiatric care. Our services are funded either through private medical insurance or self-funding, depending on your preference or policy. We do not currently receive NHS funding and are therefore unable to accept NHS referrals or offer NHS-funded appointments.
Private Medical Insurance
We are recognised by most major health insurance providers, and many of our patients access care through an employer-provided policy. However, it’s important to ensure that your insurance plan includes mental health cover (and neurodiversity assessments, if appropriate) as not all policies do.
To help avoid delays and ensure a smooth booking process, we kindly ask that you prepare the following information before contacting us:
- Name of your insurance provider
- Name of the policy holder (if different from you)
- Policy number
- Authorisation code
- Details of any policy excess
- Number of sessions or amount of funding approved
We are not able to liaise with insurers on your behalf, so it’s essential that you check your policy terms in advance and confirm coverage directly with your insurer. This will help avoid unexpected charges or disruptions to your care.
Choosing a Clinician
Some insurers allow you to choose your preferred clinician, while others will assign you to someone specific. Please note that this is entirely determined by your insurer — if the assigned clinician does not meet your needs or availability, you will need to raise this directly with your provider.
Policy Excess & Shortfalls
If your policy includes an excess (a fixed amount you must pay yourself), this will be charged to you directly. We ask that this be paid prior to your first appointment.
If your insurer declines payment for any part of your treatment, or if your policy lapses, you will be personally responsible for any outstanding balance.
Self-Funding
Many patients choose to pay for their care independently. We aim to be fully transparent about costs at all times – fees can be found on our service pages, and all fees can be provided to you at your request. Our team will advise you if any additional charges may apply (e.g. prescriptions or letters outside appointments).
Klarna
We are now offering Klarna as one of our ways to pay. Klarna is a ‘buy now, pay later’ payment method. You can choose Klarna at checkout and complete payment using Klarna’s own approval and repayment options. Klarna settles the invoice with us, whilst you agree to a repayment plan directly with Klarna.
Klarna is designed and should be used for payment of assessments or larger invoices, rather than for invoices for prescriptions or other smaller sums.
Payment Process
We ask everyone to make payment on their invoice at least 3 working days before their appointment. A receipt will be issued once payment is made. We do not accept American Express.
Our system is designed so that if your invoice is not paid in advance, your appointment will be automatically cancelled. This policy is in place to protect patients from incurring unexpected charges.
