Frequently Asked Questions

How does it work?

Your activity, sleep, rest and fatigue will be measured by a highly sensitive actigraphic device that you should wear on your wrist for two weeks and it records all movements. After Sleep Unlimited receives our referral, this will be posted to you via next day special delivery. This non-invasive device identifies significant patterns which can inform your comprehensive treatment programme.

Alongside this device, you are also asked to complete a sleep diary. Information from both are combined and analysed by sleep experts.

Do I need to see one of your consultants before I do this?

Yes, as they will need to complete an assessment and send a referral to Sleep Unlimited. Seeing one of our consultants first would benefit you as they can rule out any other factors that may be affecting your sleep, determine whether you are in need of a medication change prior to the assessment and make sure that this assessment is what you need. In addition to this, they can use the report from this assessment to create a bespoke treatment plan for you.

Don’t worry, we can offer this all remotely if that is your preference.

What kind of feedback can I expect from the Sleep Unlimited assessment?

Specialised software accurately determines the amount of sleep, wakefulness and activity over both night and day. Analysis of the data obtained is interpreted by a sleep psychologist to examine sleep and wakefulness patterns as well as your levels of movement and patterns of activity.

A comprehensive report and sleep management plan written by a sleep psychologist, with input from other sleep experts if appropriate, is posted to you within two weeks of the device being returned. This is followed up by a telephone consultation with a sleep expert to discuss the reports and any questions you may have.

Some interventions that may be recommended to you include, but are not limited to, CBT for insomnia, sleep restriction therapy, good sleep practices, night and day behavioural management and how to pace activity. You will also be offered follow-up support and repeat assessments to monitor progress.

I am worried I won't wear the device for the entire time...

Sleep assessments can be very useful for people who are at risk of experiencing changes to their sleep pattern. Sleep Unlimited have built a device that is lightweight, unobstructive, discreet and very well-tolerated by all, including children, light sleepers and people with a variety of conditions, such as dementia and acquired brain injury.

It is also waterproof so there is no real reason that you will need to take it off and therefore forget to put it back on.

How much does this cost?

The cost of this sleep assessment, alongside an assessment and review by one of our consultants is £1775.
